mexico not out of the clear just yet as tropical storm patricia roars onshore bringing heavy rain and wind. the latest on where it is headed next. here locally fiery scene on the cape. what police say led up to the fiery scene. >> two middle school student arrested after they threatened shoot up their school >> on alert at harvard after a women was out walking her dog and said she was approached by a suspicious person. good morning. it's 8:00 on this saturday morning. thanks so much for making us a part of your day. i'm kris anderson. >> i'm nangsy chin. we just found out hurricane storm. it does continue to bring heavy
wind and rainfall to the region. let's get to chris lambert for the latest. it's weakened quite a bit. as expected once the hurricane make landfall especially across mountainous terrain of mexico it's a rain maker more than anything else. there's plenty of moisture streaming into texas and throughout mexico. that be an issue over the next couple of day. winds 50 miles per hour. the wind a moot point as it becomes more of rain maker and flood threat through mexico into texas. texas already having issues this morning as some of this moisture getting combined with the front that stalled out across the air. it's a slow moving cold front almost stalled out. it will drift slowly to the south. you will hear about flooding rains over the next couple of days. there will be this remnant low that tries to generate off the gulf of mexico. that will continue to enhance the rain even into louisiana as we go through the rest of the weekend.
flash flooding in that part of the country certainly a possibility as many towns from south texas into louisiana may pick up 5 to 10 inches of rain. what about the forecast if southern new england. we expect more clouds to be around than sunshine throughout the day today. lower 50s this afternoon. couple of showers around tomorrow morning. drying out for the afternoon a lot going on still i'm a busy place to be this time of year. a lot of busy places to be also across much of central and southern new england throughout this weekend and into next week. we'll talk more on the forecast, ahead. guys? as he just mentioned the storm is now overland and is weakening quickly in the rain is still coming down and coming down hard in some areas. the wind whipping around not making it safe for that region in mexico. residents did everything they could to try to brace for the impact of this monster storm. with a category five storm brewing. no one knew exactly what was in
hurricane patricia made landfall at playa at jalico not from puerto vallarta. it was the strongest storm ever recorded in the western hemisphere. residents tried to make their homes safe and tourist went to shelter. >> we were evacuated for the hotel. we came to this convention center. and then they say that it's not a safe place. we're going to texaco center. people in puerto vallarta were surprised how it crew from tropical storm to hurricane so fast. we're a little bit nervous. i don't know curious. of whattit it will look like and hopeful it will turn out good.
said winds were 165-mile-an-hour at landfall. mexican authorities declared a state of emergency and opened shelters. there's about 7 million people in the area. the national hurricane center predicts the storm will lose intensity once it hits mexico's interior mountains but may contribute to flooding in texas. we'll have more coming up in just a few minutes. we also have expanded coverage on our web site whdh.com. breaking now locally a fiery crash on the cape. police say the teenager driver crashed into the tree on great marsh road this morning. flaums. teen was take tomy hospital punor pun punor -- with minor injuries
involved in bad crash in yarmouoth. the women sped off slamming into a telephone pole. the nurse driving by stopped and pulled this 8-year-old girl from the house. they had to break windows to rescue the women. she is facing oui charges. police are searching for this escaped. they had arrested him on outstanding warrant charged. not considered to be dangerous. police arrested two students accused of threating to shoot up their own middle school. this the own threat in the city alone. police were called to tiny middle school friday afternoon. of they say some students told staff members a 14-year-old told them not to come to school monday because he was going to shoot it up.
would supply the weapons. that 13-year-old was released to his parents. the 14-year-old helded a juvenile facility in lowell. police search the home but didn't find any guns. it doesn't matter what you say is a joke intended as a joke or you mean it is serious. the mere making the statement is a threat and it's arrestable offense. we will not tolerate those kind of statements. at the end of the day it's important that parents have to realize when students make comments like this we don't think it's a joke. it's a serious thing. 16-year-old student threatened to shoot methuene high school up this week. they arrested him and held him as well. i turned around and there's a man running full force at me. and i ran as fast as i could to the door. that threat has student and
when a minivan pulled up and she knew something wasn't right. kimberly buchman has the latest. there's a man running full force me. standing on the green the young women too fearful to show her face on camera was letting her dog out when she noticed something strange. there was a mini van pulling into the area. it's unnerving. i know most of the cars around here and didn't recognize it. its just 4:00 a.m. friday. i got a sick feeling in my symptom ache stomach. the man followed her. just as i'm relieved i turn around to see a man throwning a full weight against the door. >> unsure if she was about to get attacked or blowing the whole thing out of proportion is women peeked outside and said
driver's seat and the man heading to the back passenger side of the van. why would they get in the back of the minivan. if it wasn't a planned to put them in the back. she called police who have stepped up security in the area and issued an alert to all students to be on the lookout. the women said she is okay. and glad she listened to her gut. things seem benign and then they aren't. kimberly buchman 7news "today in new england. danger. the alert comes after a random man grabbed a child's arm as she was getting off the school bus but it didn't end there. a short time later in quincy two, 11-year-old girl were leaving cheerleading practice when they were offered a ride by someone they didn't know. in both cases they were able to get i way. police in randoph and quincy are working together to see if those two incidents are connected.
student and teacher at haveril middle school on alert. the student had a folding knife in his backpack john greenly school was locked down but now everything is back to normal. this bus company looked into the wild ride after parents say field trip took a dangerous turn. parents claim the bus driver was dosing off at the wheel of the bus allegedly making for some terrifying moments for students onboard. the company is standing by the driver. here's adam williams jachlt parents say a school bus driver with bus full of third glareder graders. he would shut his off. rubbing eyes net paying attention. a few time he did the whole nodding thing. happened on 93 south in quincy. a group of students from st. joseph catholic school on their way to field trip.

encountered hurricane joaquin hasn't been found. they believe they have about the week before the battery stops sending out signals. more news today. officials say convicted theater center james holmes was assaulted by fellow inmate in prison. 27-year-old mark daniels will be charged for assaulting homes and a correctional officer. the incident happened last month in hallway while they were moved into the prison where they are housed. homes was not hurt. heavy rainfall on friday overflowing river banks and roads. slow moving yet powerful thunderstorms have caused a number of high water rescues trapping several drivers inside their vehicles. forecaster say that rain will continue through the weekend in flash flood emergency remains in effect. still ahead this morning at 8:30 a logan airport worker is in some hot water after police say he took one of a kind selfie.

we'll call it mostly cloudy overall. some breaks of sun possible. at least it will stay on the dry side. tomorrow morning not completely dry out there as we have to track the front coming through. that's actually the leading edge of warmer air heading into new england. 65 in chicago. we'll get a piece of that for tomorrow afternoon. in terms of timing out showers for tomorrow. i would say the biggest chance to see shower activity between 7:00 a.m. and noontime. they will be scattered. it's not consistent rain for that four or five-hour stretch. that's the highest chance of picking up on a couple of passing showers out there in the morning. then as the front slowly slides on through i think we will get breaks of sun late in the day as we remain dry in the afternoon maybe with the exception of one or 2:00 p.m. midmorning tomorrow the best chance of picking up on a couple
of the showers. we'll dry it out in time for kick off at gillette. afternoon. 50. partly to mostly cloudy skies for most of the day with favoring mostly cloudy skies. 44 to 48 tonight. it's not as cool thanks to the southerly breeze. we'll hold the clouds and if we get a shower late we're talking after midnight tonight. dinner plans heading to movie tonight. that is dry. morning shower or two tomorrow then dry and mild in the afternoon. temperatures about 10 degrees warmer tomorrow compared to what we see today. if you head to tailgate i won't be surprised for shower or two for tailgates tomorrow. by kick off at 1:00 p.m. dry. lower 60s 7 on 7 forecast going into next week a little bit of tropical moisture from the remnants of patricia combining with fronts that have to move through new england wednesday into thursday. could provide us with widespread rain. this one started out as act
of kindness. it took an unexpected turn. runner noticed rival went down during the cross-country race. what does he do? he stepped up to help out. not everyone was onboard for the gesture. it's a moment that didn't last long. after winning high school cross-country mete he was hanging out nearby when he spotted a rival going down. he looked very dehydrate. i yell is anyone going to help him. no one said or did anything. i jumped in and started walking beside him and gave him a push to the finish line. he never imagined what could come next. the rules state no runner can help or receive aid from another runner despite the pleas from fans and coaches the officials held firm. i see where you think he could be cheating.
as a human being he was hurting really bad. federation. ruling. it was the proper call and his hands are tied. there was no wiggle room. it's an unfortunately occurrence. but the official official is not bigger than wording of the rule. that's a bitter well to swallow for a kid doing the right thing. i thought it was the best thing to do. i knew i wanted to be a good sport about it. true example of sportsman ship and character. he'll always remember winning that race. and doing the right thing. i think the entire team and probably all the family members will be cheering him on. rival runner treated and rae lease already be on hand. he basically risked his

>> 8:31 on this saturday morning. i'm nancy chen. we keep an eye on patricia after it weakens over mexico. doesn't mean the country is out of the clear. this was monster storm that roared onshore. hurricane. at one point the strongest storm ever recorded. it's still bringing rain and heavy wind to region. here's a look mexican coast as the storm came onshore. there's record of flooding and landslides but no fatalities. we talk about landslides and flooding. this becoming more of rain maker than anything else. pores -- miles per hour.
what we begin to see the flash flooding in texas. this has been from along the front. south of dallas between dallas and waco between 8 and 17 inches of rain. more flash flooding likely through texas as you can see the stream of tropical moisture from mexico off the gulf of mexico and really hammering portions of loan start state. especially as you go further south now closing in toward austin, texas san antonio into the houston area. this is the remnant low that gets close to gulf of mexico. that will enhance the rain. a good 5 to 10 inches of rain likely through the rest of the weekend. eventually from the tropical moisture pulled into series of fronts that's across new england late wednesday into thursday. for our forecast today mostly cloudy skies.
tomorrow a little bit warmer. we'll track a couple of showers. more on that local forecast ahead. a robber on the run in new hampshire after police say he burst into mcdonalds with a rifle and he didn't wear a shirt either. there he is holding that rifle then start demanding cash. this guy threatened to kill people if his demands weren't met. >> reporter: he's half naked and toting a rifle. he demands cash. >> he entered with shotgun type weapon and demanded money. he had a mask over his face and shorts on and witnesses say he was wearing what looked like water shoes. police say he was serious in his threat. it seemed unusual he would come in without a shirt on.
worker were able to open the register and t-shirtless crook took off with drawer of cash. police hope that someone out there recognizes this very dangerous and possibly desperate man. we're hoping that somebody will recognize the individual and certainly give us call. call the concorde, police department or the concorde regional crime line and let us know to apprehend the suspect. a logan airport worker is giving the saying winging it a new meaning after police say he took a selfie on the wings of two planes. he was spotted on the worker in the hangar area. the worker was escorted off the tarmac and badge was taken away. passengers as you might imagine were shocked. he put a lot of trust people i fly with.
like that happening. nevertheless without a security badge the man will probably not be able to work at airport again. after criticizing the integrity of jury aaron hernandez murder trial. she claims that juror knew information that may have effected her decision in the case. that women went before a judge. byron barnett has more. aaron hernandez driven back to prison after hearing in fall riverer court. aaron hernandez still hopeful of winning an appeal. his attorney said nothing as they awry carrying a suit for their client. the proceeding took place in a closed courtroom no news media allowed. sources tell 7 new attorneys questioned a women who claimed to be a coworker of one of the juror in hernandez' first murder trial. the former tight end was
convicted of murdering his former friend oden lous in april. the defense claimed a juror didn't disclose he or she knew hernandezs also charged in the murder of two boston men in 2012. court documents say the women claimed the juror made statements about wanting to be on the hernandez jury. but documents say the women later indicated those statements were not made. the prosecution in court documents claim the women doesn't fact work with juror and she had ongoing sexually explicit relationship with the defendant prior to and during the trial. the prosecution said this rirp include letters sent to the defendant a relationship that the women based on uninformed belief hopes could continue after the defendant's release. prosecution said all this shows the women initial statements were not true. byron barnett, 7news "today in new england."

scare on the campus of harvard leading to warning for student. we'll tell you what it is all about, coming up. good saturday morning to you. i'm kris anderson. i'm nancy chen. we are tracking a historic storm patricia now it's been downgraded we've just heard to tropical storm. meteorologist chris lambert with a check on where she is now. >>meteorologist: winds 50 miles per hour. >> far cry from 200-mile-an-hour wind it had yesterday afternoon moving to north-northeast of course now that it is over land. you lose a lot of the tropical characteristics in terms of the intense winds and look on the satellite presentation. still plenty of tropical moisture with this. now it's a flash flood threat with heavy rain from mexico into texas. in fact with tropical moisture along the front overnight into they've already hat some dallas area.
this front slowly to the south for the rest of the weekend. likely seeing flooding rains across south texas, southeastern texas into louisiana over the next couple of day. the remnant low of what's left over of patricia may get more organized across the western gulf of mexico. ultimately it's throwing moisture back in to the lone star state. take a look at satellite and radar. you see the rain between dallas and houston. overnight look at the rain totals between waco and dallas. 8 to 16 inches of rain. even up to 17 inches of rain. some of that moisture will get pulled into a front that will deal wednesday night into thursday. how about back on the farm. apple picking today should be about 51 degrees mostly cloudy skies this afternoon. couple of showers this afternoon. more on the weekend forecast ahead. we will stick with weather now. it's been a dramatic turn of events for this monster storm. the former hurricane patricia.
it has weakened to a tropical storm this morning. roaring ashore in southwestern mexico last night a powerful category five hurricane bringing lashing rains. surging seas and look at the trees. the cyclonic winds. it's losing steam as it climbs over the mountainous territory. >> so far there's report of flooding and landslides. no fatalities. hundreds of thousands of people including tourist were forced to evacuate before this storm hit. tim caputo has more on the power of patricia. hurricane patricia made sustained wind. more than category five. it's the largest and most powerful hurricane ever recorded. authorities spent today sweeping through streets for resort town of puerto vallarta warning

the teenager driver slammed into a tree around 2:00 this morning. pickup truck bursting into flames, fire officials say the teen was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. so far no charges have been filed in that crash. also breaking a mother and her daughter trapped in this crash. it was a bad crash in yarmouth. look at the front end of the vehicle. it happened on route 28 last night. the women, though, then sped off and then slammed into a telephone pole. the car burst into flames. the nurse driving by pulled that 8-year-old from the car police had to break the window to get the mother out of the car who was unresponsive and trapped behind the wheel. also this morning police arrested two students aaccused of threatening to shoot up their middle school. police were called to the middle school friday afternoon after they say some students told staff members a 14-year-old told them not to come to school on
monday because he was going to shoot the school up. they were also told another student a 13-year-old said he would supply the weapons. both were arrested. the 13-year-old released to parents and the 14-year-old is being held at juvenile facility in lowell. and police did search their home. they didn't find any guns. i doesn't matter if what you say is joke intended as joke or you mean it serious. it's the mere making the statement we will not tolerate the statement. at the end of the day it's important that parent have to realize when student may comments like this we get think it's a joke. it's a serious thing. police say 16-year-old made a threat to shoot up the school. they arrested and held him as well. police are searching for escaped prisoner. they original i will arrested the man on outstanding warrants
but when they arrived at the station police say 24-year-old brandon slipped out of handcuffs got out of the cruiser. jumped over a fence and then ran away. they have not been able to find him thus far and he's not considered dangerous. we're following more news today. a local women is speaking out after a close call at harvard. she said she was chased by a suspicious man while out with dog friday morning. kimberly buchman reports with her story and what police are doing to keep people safe. there's a man running full force at me. standing on the green of her harvard university housing complex the young women too fearful to show her face on camera said she was simply letting her dog out when she noticed something strong. there was a mini van pulling into the area which is unnerving. it's an apartment complex. i know the cars around it. i didn't recognize it.

special story we will share with you this morning. this cancer patient a had his wishing come true thanks to volunteer that donated their time. they got together and built that amazing tree house. now this boy battling a terrible disease has a new reason to smile and have a good time. elizabeth norecca has the story. >> reporter: a ribbon cutting to celebrate the unveiling of a special tree house for a very special little boy. >> 5-year-old max is excited to share with his friends.
but they aren't just celebrating the new tree house. anymore. i don't have it anymore. >> it's the news they hoped to get. max is cancer free. but it hasn't been an easy two months for max. that's why the make a wish foundation and chamet teamed up to build this boy something he had been wishing for. >> max wanted a tree house. when we went to florida he saw the swiss family robinson and that stuck with him. that's something he was really excited about. a labor of love they were honored to do. no little kid should have to go through this. if we can worry joy it's an awesome thing. his dad touched too. words could never say how appreciative we are. in a world with a lot of negativity these guys show what a lot of good people out there

20 miles per hour. it will likely the remnant low of it work into the northwestern gulf of mexico by sunday and try to regenerate a bit. thinking more of rain maker than anything else. and a big rain maker at that. we've seen issues overnight close to dallas, texas as a front has been stalled out across this area if not just slowly drifting off to the south now as the cold front. with a lot of tropical moisture riding along that front and lifting up and ringing out a ton of rain. rain south of the city of dallas morning. we've had a tremendous amount of rain so far that will continue a good 5 to 10 inches likely through southeastern texas as we weekend. big rain maker there. a little bit of that moisture gets pulled into a system that will deal with wednesday night into thursday. that's the next best chance of widespread rain. in the mean time mostly cloudy skies close to 50 we're back into the 60s tomorrow. we'll talk more about the

and possibly desperate man. 7news "today in new england." police made an arrest after 17-year-old stabbed to death at jamaica planes stop. the suspect is just 16 years old. osecutors say it started out as a fight between the two. and then that suspect pulled out a knife. police tracked down the suspect using surveillance footage. that suspect confessed. he's being held without bail. friends held a victim for the 17-year-old mason raymond. he was rushed to the hospital after this attack. he died early yesterday morning. airport worker giving the saying withing a new meaning after he took a selfie on the wings of two planes. he was spotted on thing withes thursday night. taking pictures of himself.

good ten degrees warmer than where we will stand this afternoon. there's your rain chance tomorrow. 40% peeking midmorning. and then drying out for the afternoon. 42 in boston. it's a good 20 degrees warmer in the ohio valley as we speak. 66 in chicago. that's a peek of milder air that will work in. story really over the next couple of day across the deep south into texas will be soaking rains in fact sometime flooding rains from dallas to houston. tropical moisture from patricia will continue to work into the region providing soaking rain. now some of that moisture mid-to-late week will break off and as the cold front and warm front sweep from the midwest into new england those fronts will use some of this moisture to bring out more wild spread rain. i expect by late wednesday into thursday the potential of widespread rain across the area. 48 to 54 degrees this afternoon. couple of degrees either side of 50.
